Are you interested in becoming a volunteer at Summa Barberton Hospital? Volunteers play an important role in adding to the success of Summa Barberton Hospital. In 2007, 306 volunteers contributed 60,447 hours of volunteer service at Summa Barberton Hospital in areas such as flower delivery, patient transportation, emergency department, surgical waiting desk, main lobby desk, Parkview Center and community health fairs, just to name a few. Volunteering has many rewards. It is a great way to give back, meet new people, develop new interests, learn new skills, and be a part of something great. Anyone who is 14 years old and older can become a volunteer. Men and women of all races, ethnic backgrounds, religions, married couples and retirees are welcome to apply. Becoming a volunteer is easy, just contact the volunteer office at (330) 615-4035 or complete the online application and send to pmills@barbhosp.com. After a successful interview, a background check is performed and the volunteer will be invited to an orientation. Volunteers are dedicated role models who want to make a difference. Each person has a special skill or talent that will benefit our patients. The volunteer greets visitors to the ICU / CCU waiting area and assists with information and visitors who may inquire. Gift Shop The volunteers assigned to the Gift Shop use the cash register, straighten the shelves, price items and wait on customers. Surgery The volunteers act as a liaison between the surgery staff and the patient’s waiting family members. Transport Transport volunteers take patients to the patient discharge area. Volunteers also assist with errands for the nursing staff. A group of specially certified volunteers help Medicare recipients by answering questions and providing information about their insurance. Baby Hats Volunteers lovingly hand knit baby hats, which are given to each Summa Barberton Hospital newborn. We are always looking for baby hat knitters. Magic Paws A special program featuring Delta Certified dogs visit the patients to aid in their recovery. |
